Marcel Wanders in Philadelphia

The A/V team at the Philadelphia Museum of Art has been working double-overtime, installing “Marcel Wanders: Daydreams,” a multimedia exhibition that opened Sunday november 22nd. The exhibition, a retrospective of sorts of the Dutch design star’s career, is Wanders’s first solo show in the United States. Why Philadelphia? “We asked him,” said Kathy Hiesinger, the museum’s curator of European decorative arts.

Dutch Flower Dresses

Two unique flower dresses were displayed at the opening of the New Amsterdam Pavilion on 09.09.09, which is a gift of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the City of New York as part of the NY400 celebrations. Designer duo Niels van Eijk and Miriam van der Lubbe received a commission from the Flower Council of Holland for the design of these colorful, ceremonial dresses.

Vermeer's Milkmaid

She's been to the US before, for the 1939 World’s Fair, but this is her Manhattan debut. “The Milkmaid”, the famous seventeenth century painting by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer, was sent to the Metropolitan Museum of Art by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as part of the NY400 celebration. Pavilion Unveiling

The Prince of Orange and Princess Maxima of the Netherlands joined NYC Mayor Bloomberg for the unveiling of the New Amsterdam Pavilion, designed by Dutch architect Ben van Berkel. Peekskill goes Dutch

A stroll through the City of Peekskill in the Hudson Valley yields an unexpected encounter with the region’s Dutch connection. The city’s sidewalks, roads, walks and benches are embellished with thousands of Delftware-inspired tiles, portraying a wide range of subjects: from Henry Hudson and his ship the Half Moon to tulips, windmills, and the Dutch Royal Family. The tiles were designed by students from the Hudson Valley, uniting them with their Dutch heritage.

Hello Pavilion!

The New Amsterdam Pavilion arrived in NYC! Even though it won't be unveiled until September 9th, we got a sneak preview as the pavilion entered its new hometown last night. The New Amsterdam Pavilion, designed by renowned Dutch architect Ben van Berkel from UNStudio, will be a permanent tribute to the 400-year Dutch legacy in New York City.
