The Dutch are famous for their contributions to the world of design, whether it is industrial design, graphic design or any other form of art. The simplicity and economy of design that characterized the Dutch approach is illustrated in the works of groups such as the De Stijl artists and designers in the 1920s. In recent years, the Droog design collective added the innovative use of materials, humor and startling originality to De Stijl’s precepts.
Contemporary Dutch designers excel in reinterpreting known forms and modernist archetypes trough creativity and technical know-how. The range of design is immense and functions as an inspiration for many designers around the world.
In the United States a milestone was created for Dutch design over 12 years ago when the Museum of Modern Art introduced the Dutch Design Café which was highly successful. Since then, Dutch designers have enjoyed numerous highly respected exhibitions all over the United States.
