Hollanders on the Hudson: The Historical Paintings of Len Tantillo
Location

American artist Len F. Tantillo is a storyteller. An historical and maritime painter in the tradition of the Dutch masters of the 17th century. But unlike masters like Willem van de Velde, Tantillo doesn’t paint what he sees. He reinvents places in the common history of New York State, that none of us have ever seen. He isolates us in a moment past, and through his exquisite talent, makes us accept his vision of these lost worlds as restored reality.
The paintings, sketches and drawings shown at the Westfries Museum are all about the Dutch footprint in the history of the City and State of New York, starting in 1609 with the arrival of Henry Hudson. Tantillo shows us the forts (Nassau, Orange and Amsterdam) the settlements (Beverwijck, Schenactady and of course Manhattan) the farms and scenes of daily live.
In his work Tantillo shows us the way it could have been with extraordinarily precise detail. He is the-artist-as-time-machine and makes this exhibition a marvelous experience!

Best wishes to Len for a successful exhibit of his wonderful art. It is especially meaningful to me as the exhibit is in my own "hometown".
On this side of the ocean he has available the Wyckoff Farm House and Museum in Brooklyn as evidence of 1652 interiors for future works of art perhaps. That family's grandaughter married the first Van Horne in the colony.
Watch ENTHUSE/ DUTCH /TV in September for a full report of my first meeting Len at a Society of Daughters of Holland Dames event and being drawn into his uncovering my DNA's past.
Is that what Shirley McClaine meant by past lives??
