The 28th Peter Stuyvesant Ball
Location
Pier Sixty on the Hudson
Chelsea Piers at 23rd Street
New York, NY
The Peter Stuyvesant Ball, an annual black tie event, raises funds for the NAF (Netherland-America Foundation), and is the primary source of funds for the NAF's U.S. Fulbright Fellowship Program, an educational exchange program for students pursuing graduate level studies in the Netherlands.
The Ball, named after the last Dutch governor of New Amsterdam, the New Netherlands, honors and celebrates the role that New York City's Dutch community has played for 400 years. In the greater New York area, Peter Stuyvesant became the symbol of the earlier Dutch colony, a contribution that is forever memorialized by his name, complete with his one wooden leg.
In recognition of KLM Royal Dutch Airline's 90th anniversary, KLM will Sponsor the Ball, whose President and Chief Executive Officer, Peter F. Hartman, will serve as the Ball Chair. Fred G. Peelen of the NAF Board and a member of the Executive Committee, returns as Chair of the Organizing Committee. Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven, patrons of the NAF, have been invited to attend, as have the Dutch and U.S. Ambassadors.
The evening begins with cocktails at 7 pm, followed by dinner at 8 pm: a culinary experience by Jonnie and Thérèse Boer of the Three-Michelin Star Restaurant De Librije in Zwolle. A satirical dialogue will be presented by Floor Kist, former Grandmaster of Her Majesty the Queen of the Netherlands.
